Common fixes

📷 Camera or microphone not working

Your browser is blocking camera access — the most common cause by far.

Chrome (desktop & Android):

  1. Look for a camera icon in the address bar (top right)
  2. Click it → select Always allow
  3. Refresh the page

Safari on iPhone / iPad:

  1. Go to Settings → Safari → Camera
  2. Set to Allow
  3. Return to the page and refresh
Black screen — camera preview is empty
  • Camera permission is blocked — see above
  • Another app is using the camera (Zoom, FaceTime, etc.) — close them and refresh
  • On iPhone: close all apps from the switcher, reopen your browser
  • Try updating your browser to the latest version
👤 "Your stream is hidden without your face"

This is not a bug — free users are required to keep their face visible as a live presence check. It's the same rule that ensures the person you match with is real too.

  • Centre your face in the frame
  • Face a light source — avoid strong backlight
  • Don't hold the phone too far away or at an extreme angle

Premium users can opt out of the face visibility requirement.

🔄 Stuck searching — no match found
  • Most users are active in the evenings (UTC+1 to UTC+3) — try peak hours
  • Disable your VPN if one is active
  • Try a different language flag on the home screen
  • Check your internet connection is stable
🌐 Opened from Instagram, Facebook or TikTok

In-app browsers inside social media apps block camera access by design. You need to open ChatMe in Safari or Chrome.

iOS: Tap ··· or the share icon → Open in Safari

Android: Tap Open in Chrome

🔁 Chat froze or crashed
  • Refresh the page — your session resumes automatically
  • Video chat needs a stable connection of at least 2 Mbps
  • Close unused browser tabs to free up memory
  • Clear browser cache if issues repeat: Settings → Privacy → Clear browsing data
